About Simon Woodhouse

Down to earth, no nonsense, 'good for your soul food' is Simon Woodhouse’s ethos in life. Fresh is best, but if you’ve got to feed the kids or are late home for work, fast is better. Making do with what’s to hand is how he makes his living – be that as a chef, sailor or boat builder.

Simon originally trained as a Landscape Architect but after a few years of grappling with the red tape and politics, he traded his sensibilities for his passion of cooking. Training 'on the job' in restaurants along the South Coast and in France, Simon learnt to use quality, fresh ingredients and develop a deep appreciation for cooking with fresh fish. Some of Simon’s previous employments include:

Head Chef – The Winking Prawn (Salcombe), The Ship In Distress (Mudeford), Beachleas Hotel and Restaurant (2 Rossettes, Wimborne, Dorset)
Head Chef/Catering Manager – Challenge Business (Global Yacht Race - for Wise catering)
Executive Chef – Chardon Mountain Lodges (5 star operation, Val d'Isere)

Sometime during his twenties someone bet Simon that he couldn’t renovate an old boat and sail her. Always a little too eager to rise to a challenge he began to renovate an old wooden boat and his love of sailing was borne. Along the way he acquired 'Venture', a 24 foot wooden classic yacht which became home for three years. Venture was replaced by 'Keryl' who later became the star of the 'Boatyard' television series for Discovery Real Time. The combination of boats and food came together head on in the telling of the tale 'The Floating Kitchen', a ten episode documentary for Discovery Real Time.

Since 2007, Simon has been employed as a Brand Ambassador for The Co-Operative Food appearing at events like Vitality, County and Royal Shows and the Good Food Show as well as in supermarkets up and down the country.
